Former Superintendent of Public Instruction Libby Burmaster endorses Wade for Assembly
Elizabeth Burmaster, a former State Superintendent of Public Instruction and Principal of West High School, has endorsed Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District on the West side of Madison. Ms. Burmaster said:
“I am pleased to endorse Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District. I have known Fred for more than ten years. He is serious, thoughtful and intelligent. He will give careful consideration to proposals for legislation. I believe he will make an outstanding State Representative for the 77th Assembly District because he has both the desire and the capacity to become a leader on education issues.”
“Fred will work to provide additional funding for the University of Wisconsin, the technical college system, and PK-12 education. As a parent with school age children, he understands the importance of quality education as a means of helping our children achieve their full potential, and preparing them to deal with the challenges they will meet in life. He also
understands that education is a matter of statewide concern, because quality education is necessary for creating a competitive workforce in a world economy, and is also essential for creating the informed citizenry that is essential to maintaining our representative democracy.”

“The Legislature that we elect in November will consider proposals to reform our current
system of school funding. Fred will support reforms that are designed to make the funding of our
schools more fair, sustainable, transparent and accountable for results. As part of that effort, he
will advocate additional state funding for the costs of our public schools, so that we can provide
adequate funding for quality education, and reduce reliance on the local property tax.”
“Fred’s experience demonstrates that he has the capacity to become a leader on education
issues. He has worked as an attorney and senior executive for the Securities and Exchange
Commission for more than eleven years, dealing with complex regulatory issues and cases before
the United States Courts of Appeals. He has also served on the staff of the Wisconsin State
Senate, taught corporation law and college-level courses in American Government, and served
his local government as a member of the Finance Committee since 2003. This experience
demonstrates that he has the ability to deal with the kind of complex issues that the Legislature
will face in dealing with school funding reform.”
Wade has also been endorsed by Peg Lautenschlager, who served as the Wisconsin
Attorney General from 2003 to 2007. That endorsement is also posted at wadeforassembly.org.
