Ed Garvey Endorses Wade for the 77th
Assembly District

Attorney Ed Garvey has endorsed Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District on the West side of Madison. Mr. Garvey stated:

“I am endorsing Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District. I have known Fred for more than twenty years. He is a friend of the labor movement and an advocate for working men and women. He has supported progressive Democrats for decades. I believe his values and his broad experience in government and the law would make him an effective advocate for working men and women in the State Assembly.”

“As a former Deputy Attorney General for Wisconsin, and a former Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association for thirteen years, I know that Fred’s broad experience, and his understanding of how government works, would give his views weight on the issues that the next Legislature will confront. He already knows, and has worked with, a number of incumbent legislators on a variety of legislative proposals.”

“Fred served as an attorney and a senior executive at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for more than eleven years. He knows how regulatory agencies work, and why strong enforcement of laws and regulations is important.”

“As a staff attorney, he wrote the SEC rule that prohibits corporate executives from lying to their auditors and became an expert on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. As a senior executive in the Enforcement Division, he conducted a study that led to greater enforcement powers for the agency, and helped to secure an agreement with Switzerland that gives the SEC access to Swiss bank records in investigations of insider trading.”

“Since leaving the SEC, Fred has used his skills and experience to help labor unions and pension funds challenge excessive executive compensation and seek reforms in corporate governance. Fred has also used his skills on behalf of working men and women who have suffered discrimination and other wrongs in the workplace. In one case, he helped to win a substantial settlement from the City of Watertown in a case where a federal court jury found that the City had engaged in age and gender discrimination in its treatment of a woman employee.”

“I believe Fred would make an outstanding State Representative. He has my support in the primary election that will be held on September 14.”

Mr. Wade has also been endorsed by Former State Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager and State former Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster.
