Former Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager
endorses Wade for the 77th Assembly District

Former U.S. Attorney and State Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager has endorsed Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District on the West side of Madison, Ms. Lautenschlager stated:

“I am endorsing Fred Wade for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District. I have known Fred for more than twenty years. He is a principled progressive who would bring a rare combination of skills, experience and values to the task of representing the West side of Madison and part of Middleton. He is clearly the best choice for State Representative in the 77th Assembly District.”

“As a former U.S. Attorney, Wisconsin Attorney General, and member of the State Assembly, I know the importance of having a person of Fred’s caliber in the Legislature. Fred served in a senior executive position at the Securities and Exchange Commission. I know that work at that the senior level of government requires an ability to deal with the kind of difficult and complex regulatory issues that will be confronted by the Wisconsin Legislature in the areas of environmental protection, the funding of our public schools, and law enforcement.”

“Fred Wade is serious, thoughtful and independent. In addition to serving as an attorney and senior executive of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington, Fred has worked on the staff of the Wisconsin State Senate, taught college level courses in American Government, served as a member of the Finance Committee of his municipal government since 2003, and practiced law in Madison since 1987.”

“We need more representatives in the Assembly who understand how laws should be drafted, administered and enforced. Fred’s SEC experience includes participation in the drafting of the Insider Trading Sanctions Act. His work contributed to the development of legislation that gives the SEC broader enforcement authority, and to an agreement with the Government of Switzerland that permits the SEC to obtain evidence from Swiss banks in insider trading cases. His SEC work also includes the drafting and promulgation of two rules that implement the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, by requiring corporations to keep accurate books and records, and prohibiting corporate executives from lying to their auditors.”

As a lawyer in private practice, Fred has used his skills on behalf of working men and women who have suffered discrimination and other wrongs in the workplace. In one case, he helped to win a substantial settlement from the City of Watertown after a federal court jury found that the City had engaged in age and gender discrimination with respect to a woman who had served the City with an outstanding record of performance over a period of more than 13 years.”

“Fred has demonstrated the ability and the capacity to become a leader in the Wisconsin Assembly. I believe he is the best choice for State Representative in the 77th District.
